The project management team from BarmeniaGothaer, consisting of Melissa Knie, Stefanie Poensgen and Thorsten Krämer, made the start. They guided us through the first, hot project phase from the idea to the MVP from different perspectives. They described very vividly how they worked closely with Consor in the first year of the project to achieve the goals set. During the live demo, the audience was able to see the current status for themselves.

This was followed by an interview with our CTO Andrea Rezzonico. We looked into the status of the Consor Universal Cloud Service (CUCS) and what the next steps are. A topic that is of increasing interest to our customers.

After a short break, Michael Meili from Helvetia Specialty Lines and Markus Thöni from Consor showed how sales accounting is implemented with the help of Consor Universal. In particular, it became clear how much manual work could be replaced by automation. The sales accounting process at Helvetia Specialty Lines has been simplified and automated thanks to Consor Universal and the error rate has been reduced.

Our Head of Development, Marco Regniet, then answered questions about Consor Universal’s release strategy. He was able to show how we have established a clear and easy-to-understand release model by adapting our process.

Martin Nokes then took us through some of the feature highlights that we have been able to implement since the last User Conference. Once again this year, there was not enough time to show everything in detail.

Thilo Moseler from Mobiliar then showed various use cases in which data warehouses were integrated into Consor Universal. His presentation also made it clear how much Consor Universal facilitates the daily work of underwriters.

Finally, our keynote speaker, Dr. Frederik Flöther from QuantumBasel, introduced us to the exciting world of quantum computing. In addition to the current state of the art, he showed us inspiring application examples of how quantum computing is already being used in combination with AI models in the finance and insurance industry.

Ralph Tegtmeier and Dr. Uwe Grabosch from our customer VGH Versicherungen kicked things off this year. In their presentation, they vividly described how the use of Consor Universal has simplified and standardized risk analysis and pricing for industrial companies and municipalities. They also explained how Consor Universal fits into the existing IT landscape and thus ensures greater efficiency and consistency in day-to-day work.

Our CTO Andrea Rezzonico then explained in his presentation how our Consor Universal Cloud Service is structured from a technical perspective and how we have organized security and data storage. The topic of security was discussed in greater depth in the subsequent interview with our CISO Florian Haid.

After the break, Markus Thöni talked about how the right to be forgotten was implemented at our customer Helvetia Specialty Lines in accordance with national and EU legislation under the title “Spring cleaning in the databases”. Thanks to the structure and design of Consor Universal, compliance with legal regulations and the efficient handling of data deletion can be automated and synergies can be used sensibly.

Bettina Niklaus and Marco Regniet then shared their first flight experiences with the Consor Universal Blackbird version. Valuable lessons learned and best practices help our customers to implement their upgrade efficiently and quickly.

As in previous years, our Head of Business Development, Martin Nokes, presented the latest features and developments in Universal. In addition to the many new highlights in Consor Universal, he was able to give a preview of the new web design engine.

This year’s keynote speech was given by our new advisory board member for Germany, Dr. Christopher Lohmann. His exciting contribution on the trends and megatrends in industrial insurance and the challenges that insurers will have to overcome in the future gave the audience food for thought. Thanks to his decades of experience in industrial insurance – including as CEO of HDI Germany and Gothaer – and his numerous contacts, Christopher has an excellent overview of the market situation and upcoming developments, which he was happy to share with our customers.

The title of the event provided plenty of scope for wide-ranging presentations and discussions. Climate protection and sustainability issues are increasingly becoming the focus of insurance companies. On the one hand, insurance companies as corporations are required to know and optimize their ecological footprint. On the other hand, insurance companies are also facing major challenges due to the climate-related increase in natural disasters. On the one hand, insurance customers are unsettled by the changes, but on the other hand they are also open to new insurance concepts.

Many of these challenges can only be met with the help of IT. A high-caliber panel discussion dealt with the question “What must IT do to support the business through change?”

Among others, Burkhard Oppenberg (CIO, Gothaer), Martin Thormählen (CTO, Munich Re) and Ruedi Wipf (CEO, Consor) discussed which competencies and core topics an insurance company’s IT should focus on. It was quickly agreed that every insurance company needs strong IT. However, this should not primarily focus on the latest technological trends, but should first do its homework. In other words: Mainframe and other legacy systems must be replaced by modern systems that support the business processes end-to-end. Standard software can and should be purchased and not developed in-house. However, IT must have the ability to define and orchestrate the overall architecture and allow different IT systems to work together.

Urs Stoob, Head of Property & Casualty Products / Applications at AXA Switzerland, welcomed the guests as host with a brief introduction to the building and the history of AXA in Winterthur.

The first technical presentation was given by his colleague Lukas Keller, Product Owner Plug & Play, together with Markus Thöni, Project Manager at Consor. Using the example of travel and cell phone insurance, Lukas showed in a demo how the growth market of embedded insurance at AXA Switzerland is mapped in Consor Universal.

Then it got technical: our CTO Andrea Rezzonico presented the new Consor Universal Blackbird version together with our Head of Software Development, Marco Regniet. The technical advantages – also with regard to future requirements and the use of Universal as software as a service – were explained in a simple and understandable way, even for laypeople.

After the break, Christoph Moor, Head Product Underwriting Liability at Zurich Insurance, showed how he and his team use Consor Universal Blackbird in the large customer business and also gave a live demonstration of the new Wording View. The audience showed great interest in the flexibility and individuality that this enables in wording.

In the subsequent interview with Bettina Niklaus, Head of Customer Projects at Consor, the new Consor Universal Cloud Service was presented. In future, our customers will be able to obtain Consor Universal as an all-round carefree package in the cloud service, thus saving their own infrastructure resources.

As has almost become a tradition, Martin Nokes, our Head of Business Development, then presented some new features of Consor Universal – not all of them, of course, as there wouldn’t have been enough time.

This year’s keynote speech was given by digital expert Dr. Sarah Genner. Under the title “Navigating Uncertainty and Other Future Skills”, she guided the audience through her field of research. In exciting and impressive theses, she showed the challenges that our new world of work brings with it and which skills will help us to master them.

At the subsequent drinks reception in AXA’s garden, the participants chatted for a long time and made new contacts. Once again, we would like to thank our host AXA Switzerland!

For just under an hour, the motivated participants followed the instructions and tips from Julie and Nina, who challenged us in two groups on the hilly terrain on Ottikerstrasse.

Not everyone was used to training on a slope, let alone doing short sprints there! Nevertheless, it wasn’t just the ultra-athletes who took on this challenge and Team Consor can be thoroughly satisfied with their commitment and performance!
